She Be a Poet – My Musical Youth

Raised on a council estate, the only Greeks on the block,

Playing on the green outside where the local kids would flock.

Belinda Carlisle told us, that ‘Heaven Is a Place on Earth’

Only Bucks Fizz swore it was ‘The Land of Make Believe’,

A mixed tape of my musical, spiritual birth.

Confusion reigned in ‘Our House’ still,

‘Teardrops’ drenched my cheeks,

My story behind SMASH HITS poster covered walls,

Memorizing tunes, my world,  lyrical geek.

Dancing tall on tip toes, Thursday nights, TOTP,

‘Running Up That Hill’ of teenage life,

‘I Want to Break Free’.

She Be a Poet – Her Joy

Waking from sleep is a strange feeling now, anxiety hits me hard

Duvet is my protector, cushioned, I am wrapped in layers reluctant to move.

Who is this person I have become, the person who lives to hide?

She is new to me, unfamiliar tactics, shy as a blushing bride.

Greek, but where is my kefi?

Soulful, but where is my rhythm?

Woman, when will you return?

Soon.

She Be a Poet – I Wander

Walking with no destination, just to pass the time,

Be at one with nature, slippery mud and rainfall combine.

Trees are swaying, swooning over the sun,

She breaks between storm clouds with a shy expression

“Catch me if you can, hon”.

She Be a Poet – Metabolic Mood

Roots are growing longer, shooting up grey sprigs

Ditch the dye I’m thinking? Yeh? Nah? Maybe? How about a wig?

Perimenopausal tricks are happening and I’m just not in the mood

Trust there is no magic here, slippery sorcery stirring my food!

I call (cry) to a higher power, pleading, “Please be kind”

“Will all these squats I’m doing, give me my dream behind?”

Get down girl for the love of you, transformation waits

Grab the next phase fiercely, shock that metabolic rate!
